Broken Bow, NE- Janis L. Fruhling age 74 of Broken Bow, died February 17, 2016 at her home in Broken Bow. Memorial services will be held on Saturday February 27, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Govier Bros. Mortuary in Broken Bow with Pastor Kathy Salts officiating. Inurnment will be at the Heritage Memorial Gardens at Broken Bow. A register book may be signed at Govier Bros. Mortuary in Broken Bow. Janis Fruhling was born on March 13, 1941 to Carl and M. Lucille (Osborne) Rasmussen. She was married to Larry Fruhling August 14, 1965 at Kearney, Ne. The couple just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their children and grandchildren in attendance. They lived the majority of their lives in Kearney. In 1986, took on a huge adventure and moved to Phoenix, Az. With family back in Nebraska a move was made back and in 1988, they moved to Lincoln, Ne. In 1990 they settled in Omaha, Ne. and stayed there until retirement. In 2011 they moved to Broken Bow, Ne. to be part of their youngest grandkids lives. Broken Bow welcomed Larry and Jan with open arms and they have become friends with so many. Janis became a member of the Broken Bow Lions Club and the Pacesetters, and also Our Saviour Lutheran Church. There were many important events in Jan’s life but the highlight would have to be her grandchildren. Nothing would bring a bigger smile to her face than when the grandkids walked into the room. Even when her health was failing she managed to make it to two of her granddaughter’s weddings and a granddaughter and grandson’s college graduation. Jan loved to travel. Jan and Larry visited their daughter Denise in Japan while she was serving in the military. They went to Europe twice and travelled to almost every state in the United States. Janis is survived by her husband Larry of Broken Bow, sons; Brad (Ann) Fruhling of Gretna and Jeff (Koleen) Fruhling of Cedar Bluffs, NE, daughters; Denise (Jon) Ruby of Omaha and Jodi Fruhling Smallcomb (Jeff) of Broken Bow, 7 grandchildren Courtney and Brody Baer, Colton Fruhling, Nathan and Melissa DeLaet, Noelle and Elliott Wegner, Emily, Jackson, and Jacob Smallcomb, 4 great grandchildren, Keith, Kyle, Kollin DeLaet, and Frances (Frankie) Wegner, sisters; Rojane (Ron) Catlin of Kearney, Carol (Len) Prescott of Lincoln, Verla (Tom) Walker of Houston, TX, and Linda Grassmeyer of Kearney, and a step brother; Roger (Pat) Standage of Poole, NE. Janis is preceded in death by her father and mother. Her brother Duane and sister Delores and step-father Roy Standage. Janis has a special group of friends that she has met over the years and these friends have become a part of our whole family.
