Lois Dainton was born on May 5, 1927 at Fairfield, NE to William and Ida (Ransom) Williams. She graduated from Fairfield High School and later attended college in Hastings. Lois met her future husband Owen Dainton at the Pible Bible Camp at Ericson, NE where she was serving as a camp counselor. They were married on October 11, 1947. The couple made their home at Anselmo on the family ranch. Lois worked for over 40 years for the Bessie Nursery at the Nebraska National Forest in Halsey where she made countless friends and a lifetime of memories. Owen died in 1991 and Lois spent 20 more years living on the ranch she called home. Lois enjoyed square dancing with the “Wagon Wheelers”, serving as a 4-H leader, teaching, leading and directing young people in everything from livestock management to cooking and sewing and she loved to play cards with friends and family. Many were the nights that the lights stayed on and the furnace stoked so they could play ‘just one more hand’. Lois enjoyed gardening, both flower and vegetable, and had a knack of growing a tree wherever she planted it. She spent many hours doing needle work of one kind or another but the her greatest joy seemed to be in having her grandchildren in her home and they can all tell stories of ‘sleepovers’ at Grandma’s house. Survivors include her 3 daughters, Joyce (Phil) Haumont of Anselmo, Judy (Rick) McCaslin of North Platte, and Jeannie Sierks of Broken Bow; 2 sons, Richard (Christine) Dainton of Columbus, GA, and Robert Dainton of Ewing, NE; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by 3 sisters-in-laws, Gertrude Williams of Ashland, NE, Leona Williams of Arizona, and Margaret Williams of Maryland. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 brothers, Ray, Eugene, and Everettt; a sister-in-law, Waunita Axtell; and a great grandson.
