Edwin Lynn Datus, 75, of Broken Bow, died of cancer on Sunday, May 29th 2016 at the CHI Health-Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
A memorial graveside service for Ed Datus will be held on Thursday, June 2, at 11 a.m. at Westerville Cemetery with Minister Kathy Salts officiating. An open house celebration of his life will be held that same day from 4pm - 7 p.m. at Broken Bow Country Club. A register book may be signed at Govier Bros. Mortuary in Broken Bow. In lieu of flowers, donations made in his memory will be contributed to Callaway District Hospital by the family.
Ed was born on April 1, 1941, in Westerville, Nebraska, to parents Virgil and Helen (Copsey) Datus. He graduated in 1959 from Broken Bow High School and invested his time and talents into several small businesses. He later spent his career as a cross country truck driver for Sunrise.
Always a good listener and generous with his smiles, Ed made friends wherever he went. He spent a lot of his time with family and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed being a member of the Elks Lodge 1688, Ducks Unlimited and One Box Pheasant Hunt.
He is survived by his children, including son Geoff Datus (Jenee) and their children Jack, Jayce, Julia and Jordan of Senton, MO; daughter Geri Datus-Ward (Jason) and their children Brody, Camden and Alexa of Plymouth, MN; stepdaughter Michelle Sandal (Toby) and their children Emily and Garett of Beatrice, NE; stepdaughter Steph Myberg (Tim) and their children Lauren and Andrew of Omaha, NE; and stepdaughter Melinda Prentice of Broken Bow. Ed is also survived by his sisters; Donna Kimball of Callaway, NE, Dixie Papas of Cleveland, OH, Meredith Zutavern of Dunning, NE, and Audrey Miller of Broken Bow, NE.
He was preceded in death by his wife of nineteen years, Ellen Datus, his parents and his sister Beatrice Cooley.
