Eileen Horky

April 15, 1925 — July 8, 2016

Elsie Eileen Horky was born on April 15, 1925 to Clyde and Elsie (Bisco) Metcalf at Sargent, Nebraska. She was the last of seven children. Eileen attended Sargent Public School and graduated in 1943. She worked for many years as secretary to the superintendent and also the school board. On the week ends up town for Dr. McDaniel or one of the stores. After a few summers at Kearney State she took a Civil Service test and worked in Administration and also Payroll at the Naval Ammunitions Depot in Hastings until she married Melvin and moved to the farm which they later purchased. Raised a large garden and canned everything. When irrigation came to the area she took a job with the Bureau of Reclamation in Sargent until they had a family. Eileen was baptized and joined the Sargent Methodist Church when she was in Junior High school. Usually this was done on Easter Sunday back then. Eileen taught Sunday school, was a Den mother to the Cub Scouts, followed their ball games, was on the Church Board, secretary of the Methodist Women and WSCS from 1970 and on going. She was a Past president of P.E.O. She became a part time regular at the Post Office until she retired in 2005 at age 80. Later years after loosing Melvin she joined the Round Robin Pinochle, Over the Hill Neighborhood Birthday group, and a Prayer Partners Group. Family members very dear to her heart are sons Mark Melvin and wife Gwenda (McKinney) Horky of Sargent, Thomas James and wife Susan (Clark) Horky of Sargent, Grandchildren Michael and Fiance Brenda Zamitiz, Chase and wife Jody (Schultz), Ridge and fiancé Kalli (Beal), Teal and husband Steve Smith. Great grandsons; Slade and Oaklyn Smith, many special nieces, nephews and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, beloved husband Melvin, brothers Clark and wife Elsie (Cosler), Carl and wife Rozella (Huss), sisters Esther and husband Ellwyn (Brass), Ellen and husband Harry (Saterfield), Eloise and husband Chas (Ruf), Emma Lou and husband Vandel (Grim) and grandchild Ryan, several nieces and nephews, and many friends. Memorial funeral services will be held Wednesday July 13 at 10 a.m. in the Wescott Baptist Church in Comstock with Rev. Don Schauda officiating. Inurnment will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Sargent at a later date. Visitation will be Wednesday prior to the service at the Church. Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church in Sargent, Nebraska. Govier Brothers Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
