Larry Curtis Beitel age 67 of Sargent, passed away July 19, 2016 at Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow. Services will be held on Saturday July 23, 2016 at 3:00 PM at the Sargent Community Center with Pastor Don Schauda and Pastor Al Seadore officiating and burial services to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 5 PM to 9 PM at the E-Free Church in Sargent with the family greeting friends 7 PM to 9 PM.  Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow is in charge of the arrangements. Larry was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Clarence E. Beitel and Rose Ida Yost Beitel on September 3, 1948. He attended elementary at Victory Hill Country School and went to HS at Scottsbluff High. Following graduation in 1966, he earned his bachelors in education from Kearney State College. He went on to teach and coach at Sargent Public for 16 years, prior to managing Custer Feed Products and Sargent Oil and working as a crop adjuster. Most recently he served as a rural mail carrier. He enjoyed refereeing, coaching, gardening, hunting, fishing, camping, boating, and working in his yard. He also volunteered for his granddaughter’s mission, Wells for Haiti, Sargent VFD, and donated blood. He received the Boone and Crocket Award and District Coach of the Year. Larry is survived by his beloved wife Sonja Beitel of Sargent, NE, Nicole Owens of Aurora, NE, Jeffery Beitel and wife Cindy of Elkhorn, NE, Natalie McCawley and husband Mike of Omaha, NE, Bob Beitel and wife Nancy of Mullen, NE, and  10 grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Grayce, Mackenson, and Kendrick Owens, Peyton and Presley McCawley, Isaac, Ellie, Caedyn and Chloe Beitel. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Rose Beitel, and granddaughter, Sydnee Owens. Memorial donations may be made to Children’s Hospital in lieu of pediatric cancer research, Sargent Volunteer Fire Department, or Wells for Haiti.
