Maxine Anderson

April 2, 1930 — July 27, 2016

Maxine (Holmes) Anderson age 86, of Broken Bow passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 after a lengthy battle with dementia. Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Broken Bow Evangelical Church. Maxine Lorraine Holmes was born to George Franklin and Susie (Lueck) Holmes on April 2, 1930 and spent her girlhood years in Oak Grove, Nebraska, playing near the Loup River. As a teen the family moved to a farm near Holdrege, Nebraska, where she attended and graduated from Bertrand High School in 1949. As a High School senior she met a cowboy, Waynard Anderson who convinced her to marry him on January 22, 1950, right after the morning worship service at the Westmark Evangelical Free Church. At her passing, they had been married 66 years. They lived in Phelps County farming and ranching for their first 25 years, while starting their family, three boys and a girl. She loved connecting with people at church and in the community, was active in the Women’s ministries and White Cross ministry at the Holcomb EFC and a local ladies Help U club. Following the dream of ranching, the couple moved several times to Loup and then Blaine County , then to Montana on the slopes of the Rockies and western Nebraska near Alliance. Due to Maxine’s illness they relocated to Broken Bow in 2008 and at the time of her passing, she was a resident of Golden Living Center. In the various places where they lived , she was involved in women’s ministries in their local church and often participated in the local quilting clubs. She was able to pursue her dream of becoming a health caregiver with Home Health and nursing home services . Many sat around her table and felt loved. She loved it when family and friends would just stop by, she would put everything else aside and spend time with them. She loved Jesus and wanted all her loved ones to know him too. In recent years as the dementia took her memories, she could still sing hymns that expressed her love for Christ. Survivors include her husband, Waynard of Broken Bow, and her children, Daniel and Wanda Anderson of Broken Bow, June and Eric Petersen of Kearney, Wylie and Janet Anderson of Kimball, and Brad and Joye Anderson of Albion; ten grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two infant brothers and her sister, Alice McGuire. Memorials are suggested to Gideon’s or Broken Bow Evangelical Free Church.
