Kearney, NE – Roger Johnson age 72 of Kearney, formerly of Mason City, died Sunday July 31, 2016 at the Mt. Carmel Nursing Home in Kearney. A celebration of life service will be held on Friday August 5, 2016 at 10:00 AM at the First Baptist Church in Mason City with Pastor Roger McDermott officiating. Burial will follow at the Mason City Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday August 4, 2016, 8 AM to 8 PM at Govier Bros. Mortuary with the family greeting friends 5 PM to 7 PM at Govier Bros. Mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the 1st Baptist Church in Mason City. Govier Bros. Mortuary of Broken Bow is assisting the family with arrangements. Roger L. Johnson was born on December 21, 1943 at Callaway, to Carl F. and Wilma (Johnson) Johnson. Roger grew up on the family farm northeast of Callaway and attended country school. He later graduated from Callaway High School in 1962. On January 18, 1964 Roger was married to Norma Alice Burden in Broken Bow. Two children were born to this union; Michael L. and Connie Lea. Roger began working at BD in Broken Bow after high school and was with the company for 35 years, retiring in 1999. On May 24, 1986 Roger was married to Donna Lucas Schall at the 1st Baptist Church in Mason City. They were both employed at BD and made their home in Mason City. Roger was a member of the 1st Baptist Church in Mason City. He also served on the Mason City Village Board. Roger enjoyed flying his kite at the annual “Callaway Kite Flight”. He enjoyed camping, traveling, attending tractor pulls and spending time with family. Roger and Donna moved to Welcov Assisted Living in Kearney in December of 2013. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife; Donna Johnson Kearney, son; Michael (Carolyn) Johnson of Bellevue, daughter; Connie (Jim) Ingram of Norfolk, step daughter; Deb (Al) Gross of Grand Island, step son; Tim (Bambi) Schall of Mason City, 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, brothers; Norman (Wanda) Johnson of Callaway, Allen Johnson of Kearney, and Jerry (Wanda) Johnson of Doniphan, sisters; Sharon (Fred) Chop of Ravenna and DeeAnna (David) Bridges of Wheatland, MO, and lots of nieces, nephews, and friends. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Beverly, and a sister-in-law Betty Johnson.
