Caroldean Kay (Buechler) Slingsby, age 73, of Broken Bow, NE died Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Custer Care Center in Broken Bow. Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 20, 2016 at 10:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow with Pastor Todd Karges officiating. Burial will be in the Westerville Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday August 19, 2016, 9 AM to 8 PM at Govier Bros. Mortuary with the family greeting friends 5 PM to 7 PM at Govier Bros. Mortuary. She was born October 16, 1942 in Mullen, Nebraska to Dean Edward and Virginia Louise Johnson Phillips Buechler. She was the oldest of three children. She lived on a ranch north of Mullen until the spring of 1946, when her family moved to Thedford. She attended school in Thedford and in 1960 graduated from Thedford High School. That summer she went to Grand Island to attend Beauty School. She became a licensed cosmetologist and returned to Broken Bow where she worked at LaVonnes Beauty Salon. On June 13, 1965 she married Richard Dale Slingsby in Thedford. To this union, four children were born. Lois Kay, Jalea Kay, Janae Carol and Jamie Dale. On January 1, 1976 she began working at the Beauty Shop at Melham Hospital. She worked there until her retirement in 2008. She was baptized in the Mullen Methodist Church on November 8, 1953. She became a long time member of the Broken Bow United Methodist Church on March 22, 1964. As a member of the church, she dedicated many years of service to Sunday School attendance and offerings, recognizing new babies of church members, and assisting with the Higher Education and Campus Ministry. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Broken Bow Does Drove #68. She was a past president and held various other offices within the Does. Caroldean was an avid Husker Fan. She was a proud supporter of her children and grandchildrens’ sporting events. Caroldean was a very social person. She enjoyed morning coffee with her friends and participating in her Twilight Twelve Club outings. Caroldean was an excellent source of community news. If it came from Caroldean, you knew it was true. Over the years, she enjoyed special trips to Arizona, Branson, Missouri, and Rapid City, South Dakota. She and Richard enjoyed attending various concerts such as Alan Jackson, The Oak Ridge Boys, and Mannheim Steamroller. Caroldean was known for her love of the holidays and special occasions. She would always remember her friends and family with a special card, and sometimes two. She was a very giving person. Upon every visit to her children and grandchildrens’ homes, she would bring a trinket of some sort for the family to enjoy. Caroldean is survived by her husband of 51 years, Richard and her 3 children: Jalea (Jeff) Hedgecock, Janae (Jake) Knoell, and Jamie (Chrissy) Slingsby; 9 grandchildren: Chris (Kristen) Hedgecock, Jordan Hedgecock, Brandon Hedgecock, Abbie Hedgecock, Noah Knoell, Bailey Knoell, Peyton Knoell, Paige Slingsby and Zander Slingsby; 1 great-grandchild: Brynnley Hedgecock and her brother, Joe Buechler and sister, Linda Bailey. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Lois, and her half brother, Dick Phillips. Memorials are suggested to the Broken Bow Rescue Unit.
