David D. O’Brien, age 62, of Broken Bow, Nebraska died Monday September 5, 2016 at his home in Broken Bow. Funeral services will be held Friday September 9th at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Broken Bow with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday Sept. 8th 8.a.m. to 5 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Saint Joseph Catholic Church with rosary beginning at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Angela foundation (CARC), Saint Joseph Catholic Church or Mid-Nebraska. David was born on August 24, 1954 in Broken Bow, NE to Owen Eugene and Angela “Nellie” (Graczyk) O’Brien. Although diagnosed with Down Syndrome at age of 8 months, David lived a full and interesting life. He received his education in Broken Bow through a school provided by the Custer Association for Retarded Citizens (CARC). As he progressed in knowledge and skills, David was able to achieve an independent life style with assistance from his mother, Angela and Mid Nebraska Services. For many years he lived alone in an apartment at Regency in Broken Bow, and was a productive and valued worker at Wood Options Inc. in Broken Bow where he finished his working career. David enjoyed traveling and cherished his vacation trips with some of his comrades to such places as the Ozarks, Black Hills, Hawaii and many others. Most of all David enjoyed being with other people, he would demonstrate kindness enthusiasm to all he met. He especially like to tease those he felt the most comfortable with and would respond with mischievous smiles of joy to those who would tease him in return. David was a beloved son, brother and uncle. He was willing to be everyone’s friend. David is survived by his mother Angela O’Brien of Broken Bow, Ne. Brothers Ivan (Linda) O’Brien of Florence Gardens, Arizona, Tim (Sheri) O’Brien of Broken Bow, Ne., Sisters Susan (Gary) O’Brien-Henrie of Hastings, Ne., and Tama O’Brien of Douglaston, New York. Aunts, Uncles, nieces, and nephews. David was preceded in death by his father Gene O’Brien.
