Robert "Bob" Goodner

Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 15, 2016 at 10:30 AM at the Govier Bros. Mortuary in Broken Bow with Duane Christiansen officiating.  Burial will follow in the Broken Bow Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Friday, 9 AM to 8 PM with the family greeting friends 5 PM to 7 PM at Govier Bros. Mortuary in Broken Bow.   He was born September 28, 1937, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Josephine Julianne (Stretz) and Charles Herman Goodner.  He died October 11, 2016, at the age of 79 years at Broken Bow.   He started school in Ralston, Nebraska, until the age of 7 when he moved to Milburn, Nebraska, where he attended grade school. In 1951 the family moved to Merna, Nebraska, where he graduated with the class of 1955.  He entered the navy in March of 1956 and was sent to California where he served on the USS Ajax, a repair ship that traveled to Hawaii, Japan, and Hong Kong.  When home on leave later that year, he met and started dating Joyce Davidson.  These two were married on May 11, 1958, and to this union six daughters were born.   During his life, Robert had many different jobs, from working on a farm to driving a semi-truck.  He worked at the Bow Inn as a short-order cook, Wenquist Auto Supply, and the City of Broken Bow.  He also worked at F. A. Bates which later became B-J Equipment when he and Jim Lepant became business partners.  They were also business partners in G & L Washer Sales and Service.   After B-J Equipment closed, he began working with wood where he, his son-in-law David Myers, and Earl Yantzee made woodcraft items that were marketed as Goodner’s Fine Wood.   During his lifetime he enjoyed many different pursuits from acting in the community playhouse, coaching kids, and making trips to Valentine, to camping with his family.   Family was always very important to him.  He had many talents and gifts and was more than willing to share that knowledge with others including the many friends he made through his business connections.   Survivors include his wife Joyce of Broken Bow, daughters Marilyn (Bill) Johnson of Callaway; Penny (David) Myers of Broken Bow; Kelli (Kenny) Beck of Gothenburg; Connie (Doug) Campbell of Broken Bow; Carolyn (Tim) Troxel of Berwyn; Judy Sunde of Papillion; brother Melvin (Sherry) Goodner of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and 19 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren. and several nieces and nephews.   He was preceded in death by his parents,  brothers Charlie Goodner and Ed Goodner, sister Iona Nelson, and granddaughter Rachel Myers.
