Gwen Esther (Davis) Spomer was born April 19, 1923 near Eckley, Colorado to Emma Rebecca (Johnston) Davis and Milton Forrest Davis. She passed away on October 31, 2016 at the Burwell Community Memorial Health Center at the age of 93. She moved with her family to southeastern Nebraska at an early age. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1941 and served in the Navy Waves during WWII. In 1947 she married Merle Morehead and to this union a daughter, Sharon, was born. They were divorced. In 1950 she married Roby E. Shearer and to this union her second daughter, Marilyn, was born. Roby Shearer succumbed to cancer in 1960. In 1974 she married Gottlieb Spomer and they resided in Marion, SD. He passed in 2002. Gwen moved to Broken Bow, NE in 2010. She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Harkrader (Joseph) of Peoria, AZ and Marilyn Moody (Ron) of Broken Bow, NE., grandchildren, Eric Real (Shelly) and Tony Real (Britoni), Teann Moody, Raquel Walker and great grandchildren, Abby, Melody, Aubree, Ansley, Bronson, and Berkeley Real, Rylee and Aiden Walker, and Jessa Moody. Also surviving her are step-daughters Margaret Poppe, Arlene Tieszen and step-son Leonard Spomer and a number of step-grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Roby Shearer and Gottlieb Spomer, her parents, sister Gladys Glass, brothers Earl and Silas Davis, and infant sister Eunice Davis. Services will be held at Govier Brother’s Mortuary in Broken Bow, NE on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 2p.m. with Minister Kathy Salts officiating. Burial will be at the Omaha National Cemetery , 14250 Schram Road, Omaha, Nebraska on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at 2 p.m. Memorials may be made to the family to be used for the Santa Cop Program in Broken Bow.
