She attended Zion Hill country school, and graduated from Sargent High School in 1929 with a teacher's certificate to teach in rural schools. During this time a tent revival was held in Sargent; it was there that Allona accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and Lord. Serving Him was an important part of her life. Allona's first job was teaching at East Weissert School. She then returned to the Sargent area and taught for four years at her home school. Allona later attended Kearney State Teacher's College to renew her teaching certificate. On April 16, 1936 Allona married Roy Pirnie and moved to Weissert. They were blessed with two children, Roger and Marilyn. Allona started working at the Pirnie General Store and became the Postmaster in 1951. She joined the Weissert Church of God, where she played the organ for over sixty-five years. She retired in 1997 from the Postal Service and moved to Heritage Hall in 2008. Allona loved her family, pets, church, and community. Allona was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; daughter, Marilyn; her parents; brother, Edwin Roe; sister, Helen Spencer; and a host of other relatives. She is survived by her son, Roger and wife, Mary of Broken Bow, NE; three granddaughters, Julie (Mark) Nelson of Hastings, Janie Larsen of Dubuque, Iowa, and Jennifer (Patrick) Day of Omaha; nine great-grandchildren; and other loved ones.
