Alva Kenneth Bailey, 99 of Ogallala died December 25, 2016 at Indian Hills Nursing Home in Ogallala, Nebraska. Alva was born Novemer 18, 1917 in Poole, Nebraska to Addie (Hebb) and Selden Bailey. In 1927 they moved to the Sandhills of Nebraska and made their home near Dunning. He graduated from Dunning High School in 1938. Al worked for several ranchers until he entered the US Army in February 1945 serving in the Pacific during WWII. He was discharged in December 1946. In January 1948 he was united in marriage to Phyllis D. Cross at Minden, Nebraska. To this union four children were born; Dwaine, Robert, Roy and Wanda. They lived in several locations; Dunning, Purdum, Kearney, Halsey, Minden, and Ogallala. Al was a cowboy, Sergeant, mechanic, carpenter, master welder, truck driver, gardener, son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and a friend. Al enjoyed the outdoors; hunting, camping, and fishing with his family and friends was a favorite past time. He also enjoyed designing and building things. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Dwaine, brothers Gillis, Don and Ervin, and a sister Betty. He is survived by his wife Phyllis, sons Robert (Phyllis) of Superior, Arizona, Roy (Kathy) of Roscoe, daughter Wanda (Gary) Russell, of Broken Bow. Brother, Dale (Maria) Bailey of Mesa, Arizona, sisters, Viola Crone of Blair and Lorene Sinsel of Albany, Oregon, 17 Grandchildren, 40 Great-Grandchildren, and 4 Great-Great-Grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be at 2:00pm Friday, December 30 at Govier Brothers Funeral Home in Broken Bow with Military Honors. Burial will be at a later date at the Purdum Cemetery.
