Judy Doty, 84, of Decorah, died Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah. Memorial services will be held on Saturday January 21, 2017 at 11:00 AM the First Presbyterian Church in Broken Bow with Pastor Gary Smith officiating. Inurnment will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery. Govier Brothers Mortuary is assisting the family. Judith “Judy” Faye (Anderson) Doty was born March 27, 1932, the daughter of Elmer and Nellie Faye (Hedges) in Austin, Minn. Judy attended school in Austin, Minn., and then moved with her family to Oregon, graduating from High School in Eugene, Ore. in 1950. While her father was working for Hormel, she moved with her family to Turkey for six months, and then back to Austin, Minn. It was there that she met her future husband, Jack Dean Doty, on a blind date on New Year’s Eve. They were united in marriage April 16, 1955, in Austin, Minn., and were the parents of five children. While Jack worked for Hormel, Judy tended to her children. They moved to Fremont, Neb., and then to Broken Bow, Neb. in 1964. Judy worked as the Custer county clerk for 10 years. Judy was active in her PEO Chapter, sewing, quilting, playing cards and bridge. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Broken Bow. In the fall of 2000, she moved to Decorah to be near her daughter Jenny and family. She enjoyed volunteering at Winneshiek Medical Center, playing cards, PEO, and her circle ladies at the First United Methodist Church. Judy’s life was centered around loving her family and taking care of them. She enjoyed taking in and watching all of her children’s and grandchildren’s activities and sporting events over the years. She will be greatly missed. Judy is survived by her four children and grandchildren: Jennifer (Mark) Olson, Decorah, and their children: Melanie (Scott) Rutman, Denver, Colo.; Melissa Olson, Des Moines; and Jason Olson, Chandler, Ariz.; Mike (Janice) Doty, Abingdon, Va., and their children: Kate Doty, Denver, Colo., and Drew Doty, Fort Collins, Colo.; Sandy (Chad) Novak, Highlands Ranch, Colo., and their children: Samantha and Jack Novak, Highlands Ranch, Colo.; Lori (Ken) Thiele, Aurora, Neb., and their daughter, Taylor Thiele, Peoria, Ill.; Cathy’s children: Christina (Matt) Pedersen, and their children: Faith and Lane, Casper, Wyo., and Andrew Case and his son, Brodie, Casper, Wyo.; two sisters: Jeanette Ralston, Seattle, Wash., and Miriam (Gene) Motley, Decorah; one brother, Jim (Greta) Anderson, Eugene, Ore. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Nellie Faye (Hedges) Anderson; her husband of 31 years, Jack Doty, in 1986; her daughter, Cathy Case, in 2014; her step-mother, Grace Anderson; brother, Dean Anderson; two brothers-in-law, Richard Ralston and William (Mary) Doty.
