Vina Valene Coffman

Vina “Valene” (Peters) Coffman Valene Coffman age 92 of Sargent died October 25, 2009 at Jennie Melham Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Friday October 30, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Christian Life Center in Broken Bow with Rev. Hugh Campbell and Rev. Mark Stones officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Govier Bros. Mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the family. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery at Sargent, NE. Vina Valene (Peters) Coffman was born May 31, 1917 at Sargent, NE on the Frazier farm one mile north and one quarter east of Sargent to Vina Pearl (Hartley) and Henry Millard Peters. She attended Morris school most of her early years. She moved with her parents and a brother to a farm four miles south of Gering, NE. where her parents built a new home. Due to her fathers health they moved back to Sargent. Valene attended High school at District 84 and graduated in 1934. She then took a one year post graduate course at Sargent High School. She was hired by Sargent Valley School west of Sargent and taught one year, 1935-1936. She married Orval L. Coffman of Gates, NE. on June 1, 1936. To this union were born four children. The family moved to Worland, WY. Orval had employment at Varney Motors. Eleven years were spent in Wyoming and Montana. They moved back to Nebraska and resided in a country home north of Sargent. In 1980 they moved to Sargent. Orval passed away that same year. Valene continued to make her home at the Community Memorial Health Center at Burwell until her death. Valene was a member of the Sargent United Methodist Church for over fifty years. She was presently attending the Christian Life Center in Broken Bow. She joined the Rebekah’s in 1968. Valene enjoyed the United Methodist Women, Sargent Country Club, Birthday Club, West Union Club and the Walworth Club. It was her pleasure to do for her family and friends. She leaves to mourn her passing Gary (Sherry) Coffman of Frisco, TX.; Steve and Carmen Finney of Broken Bow, Reta Harris of Sargent, Charlie Harris of Canada and Joy Smith of Oregon, honorary sister Helen Gates of Hastings, NE., childhood friends Clifford and Carol Stevens of Springfield, Ill. Grandchildren, Valerie Coffman of Ft. Worth, TX., Brigette Diaz of Molalla, OR., Trevor Coffman, Kelly Coffman, Dennis and Jodi Morrison all from Frisco, TX. Chuck and Melissa Harris, Jack and Christina O’Steen, Tara Harris all of Warren, RI., Scott and Shawna Behrends of Broken Bow, Mary Afrank of Pappillion, NE., Teresa Gallantine of Des Moines, IA. Jackie Finney of Broken Bow, Twenty eight great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, neices, nephews and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Janet Joyce, grandson Gary Lee Jr., grandson Tad Finney, great grandson Elliott, great great grandson Andrew, four sister in laws, one brother, and four brothers in law.
