Mary Barker age 78 of Callaway died Sunday November 8, 2009 at the Callaway Good Samaritan Center in Callaway.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday November 11, 2009 at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Broken Bow with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery with Govier Bros. Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be held Tuesday 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Govier Bros. Mortuary. Memorials may be given to the family.
Mary Barker was a nice, kind hearted loving person. She was born on October 24, 1931 to Carl and Fern (Meston) Speer at Broken Bow, Nebraska. Mary worked at the Broken Bow Hospital as a cleaning lady. As a teenager Mary moved to Funk, Nebraska. From Funk, Mary moved to Kearney and worked at the nursing homes. There she worked as a nurse aid. Mary worked at Mt. Carmel Nursing Home for over 20 years. Mary was the kind of person that would do anything for a person, if you needed help she was there for you. She loved to dance and sing. After she retired, she moved back to Broken Bow. After Mary’s health started to fail she lived at the Custer Care Center, Off Broadway Apartments and later the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Callaway.
Mary is survived by her two daughters Sandy Lewey of Texas, and Cathy Johnson of California. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren Kate, of California, Christy of Texas, and Freddy of Omaha, 7 great grandchildren, and one brother Carl (Ruth) Speer of Broken Bow.
