Broken Bow, NE- Lucille Denson age 88 of Broken Bow, NE died Thursday March 11, 2010 at the Custer Care Center II in Broken Bow. Funeral services will be held Monday March 15, 2010 at 11:00 AM in Govier Bros. Mortuary in Broken Bow with Reverend Dan Rowlison officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery with Govier Bros. Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be held Sunday March 14, 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM with the family greeting friends 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Govier Bros. Mortuary in charge of the arrangements. Memorials have been established to the Custer Care Center. Rosa Lucille Denson was born in Ft. Davis, TX on April 6, 1921 to Newton E. and Marjorie (Atkinson) Miles. She was the second oldest of nine children. The family moved to Presidio, TX on the Rio Grande River in west Texas where she spent her childhood. She graduated from Presidio High School and was working at the Presidio Post Office where she met her husband, Richard Denson from Mullen, NE. He was stationed there on an Army Outpost to help the Texas Border Patrol when WW II broke out. After a two week courtship they were married in Marfa, TX before Richard was shipped out with his unit to the Philippines. Lucille moved to Nebraska to live with Richard’s sister until his discharge from the Army. After Richard’s return they moved to a ranch north of Whitman, NE and worked there for 13 years. In 1958 they moved to their own ranch southwest of Berwyn, NE in the Happy Hallow Community for 23 years and then moved southwest of Broken Bow to an acreage in 1980. Richard passed away in 1999 and Lucille continued to live there until 2007 when she moved to Off Broadway Apartments in Broken Bow. In 2009 she moved into Custer Care II Assisted Living. Avon, Greenhouse, dinners to the hayfield, Round Robin Mail, Miles Family Reunion, Miles History Book, crossword puzzles. Lucille is survived by her son David (Jeanette) Denson of Broken Bow, daughters Rosamay (Bob) Wheeler Grand Island, Laura (Mike) Sheanshang fo Alexandria, KY, and Alma (Lynn) Beland of Burwell, NE, grandsons Dan and Jeff(Jenny) Denson of Broken Bow, granddaughters Jodi Denson of Luray, VA, Michelle (James) Ott, Melissa Sheanshang and Maria (Joey) Hunseder of Kentucky, Rebecca and Rachael Wheeler of Lincoln, and Katie Wheeler; one step granddaughter Renee (Rob) Henderson of Oklahoma City, OK. She has eight great grandchildren, Joshua, Matthew, Kayley, and Brigan Denson; Blake and Max Denson, Lauren Ott and Harrison Hunseder. Three step great grandchildren; Connor Scot and Madden and Mya Beland. Two sisters, Milly Bean of Seattle, WA and Betty Sandhop of Lacey, WA. One Brother in law, Ed Brandt of Wenatchee, WA, and one sister in law Gloria Miles of California. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, four sisters, and one grandson Michael Sheanshang.
