Broken Bow, NE- Lois Gillett age 91 of Broken Bow died Thursday March 25, 2010 at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow. Funeral services will be held Monday March 29 at 11:00 AM in the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow with Reverend Glen Emert and Reverend Bob Winn officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the family to be decided later. Visitation will be held Sunday 1 PM to 6 PM at Govier Bros. Mortuary with the family greeting friends 5 PM to 6 PM at Govier Bros. Mortuary. Lois was born July 30, 1918 in Southold Long Island, NY. Then in 1923 she boarded a west bound Orphan train with her two sisters and 26 other children, destination an orphanage in Omaha, Nebraska. Lois and Merle was placed with a family in Washington County. In December of 1923, the family decided they wanted a boy, so Lois was placed with another family in Washington County, who became her adopted parents, who were Clyde and Erna Allen who lived in Blair, Nebraska, She attended school in Blair until her senior year, when she had to quit school, to help her dad on the mail route, as he had a heart attack and the post office would not let him carry mail by himself. Later on she moved to Omaha and became a nanny. On March 22, 1941 she was married to Robert Gillett of Wahoo, Nebraska. To this union three children were born, Ray, Sharon, and Denny. Lois was a stay at home mom. She took care of her family. She loved her flowers and her gardening. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Glencoe, OK, where they finally settled for 26 years. In August of 1997 they moved to Broken Bow to be closer to the family. Lois loved being with her family, mainly going to all the grandkids activities. Also she Loved to play cards at all the holidays. Lois was a member of the Broken Bow United Methodist Church, W.H.O., VFW Member and enjoyed going to the Christian Women’s Club. After moving to Broken Bow she became involved with the National Orphan Train Association and also the state association. She attended as many reunions as she could. She loved going to different schools and talking to the kids and telling them her story. Survivors include her daughter Sharon (Gary) Berns of Broken Bow, her son Ray of Oakhurst, OK, five grandchildren, Carmen (Bryan) Archer of Baxter Springs, KS, Ken (Dianna) Berns of Broken Bow, Shane (Bryan) Mills, Patty (Scott) Davis and Jim Gillett, 10 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, many be loved friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Gillett in 2008, infant son Denny, daughter in law Judy Gillett, Parents Clyde and Erna Allen and sisters Irene Comstock and Merle Lebsock.
