Catherine Loughran

Catherine Fay Loughran Catherine Fay (Zeigler) Loughran was born in Blaine County west of Brewster on her parent’s farm on September 8, 1919. She attended country schools and later graduated from Brewster High School in 1938. She worked as a nanny in Omaha for 2 years, returning to Brewster where she worked for Adah Riggs and family until her marriage to Tommy Loughran in North Platte on June 2nd 1941. They then lived at the Loughran Ranch near Dunning until moving to Custer County near Anselmo, Nebraska in March 1942. They resided there for 62 years when Tommy passed away on March 27, 2004. Catherine remained on the farm for 3 years, 7 months, and then moved to Broken Bow, Nebraska in September of 2007. To this union were born five children: Allan, Joan, Sue, Mick and Randy. Kate as she was known to her many friends was baptized and became a member of the Walworth Methodist Church on January 9, 1955. When the church was dismantled she was transferred to the Sargent Methodist Church, later transferring her membership to the Broken Bow Methodist Church. Kate was a member of the New Helena Ladies Country Club and the Gates Ladies Club for many years, and was a member of the Brewster American Legion Auxiliary since 1946. She loved music and dancing all her life and from a small child danced the waltz with her father. She loved to join the older group in Shadish and Square dances and Waltz’s. She always watched Lawrence Welk and Guy Lombardo on Saturday nights. She and a friend sang at funerals when she was in high school where she also was janitor and Sunday school teacher at the Brewster Congressional Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Loughran in 2004. Her father, Earl and mother, Fay (Dugger) Zeigler, also brother; Keith and sister-in-law Lillian Zeigler, and three sister-in-laws and spouses; Rose (Loughran) and Rudy Pohlreich, Iris (Loughran) and Mac Mannel, Ruth (Loughran) and Bob Smith, In-laws Mike and Edna Loughran. Catherine is survived by her sister, June and husband Paul Reilly. Her children, Allan and wife Joleen, of Sterling, CO, Joan and husband Jerry Rush, of Cozad, Sue and husband Don Schauda, of Comstock, Mick and wife Ellen of Hastings, and Randy and wife Janet of Broken Bow. Fourteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grand children and four great great grand children, and 3 step grand children. She also had many nieces and nephews and special friends. Services will be held at the Broken Bow United Methodist Church with Rev. Glen Emert and Rev. Don Schauda officiating at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 9th, 2010. Burial will be at the Gates Cemetery, memorials may be given to the Gates Cemetery or Gates Community School Building. Visitation will be held Thursday April 8th, 8 AM to 8 PM with family greeting friends from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Govier Brothers Mortuary.
