Stromsburg, NE- Mabel L. Spencer age 90 of Stromsburg formerly of Brewster died April 5, 2010 at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.
Funeral services will be held Friday April 9, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Govier Bros. Mortuary in Broken Bow with Rev. David Hansen officiating. Burial will be in the Brewster Cemetery at Brewster with Govier Bros. Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be held Thursday 8 am to 8 pm at Govier Bros. Mortuary. A memorial has been established to the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.
Mabel was born March 11, 1920 at Ansley, Nebraska to Chester and Ethel (Fauss) Loy. She grew up on the family farm and attended Ansley Public Schools. She graduated fro Ansley High School. After her education she taught rural school.
She was married to Ray W. Spencer on July 18, 1942 at Broken Bow, NE. They made their home on the family ranch three miles east of Brewster. They owned and operated Spencer Market for many years before moving to Elmwood in 1990. Ray died March 16, 1999. Mabel continued to make her home at Elmwood before moving to the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg in 2000 where she remained until her death.
Mabel was a member of the United Church of Christ in Brewster. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting. Mabel loved her garden and especially loved spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her son Larry (Karen) Spencer of Stromsburg, NE, two daughters Eileen (Dale) Engelking of Southbend, NE, and Beverly (Dick) Schaaf of Plattsmouth, NE, seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, She is also survived by one brother Clyde (Pearl) Loy of Berwyn, NE.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters and three brothers.
