Ira I. (Ike) Stone
Ira Irvin Stone age 90 of Broken Bow died May 26, 2010 at the Jennie Melham Medical Center in Broken Bow. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday May 28, 2010 at Govier Bros. Chapel with Rev. Larry DeMoss officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at Govier Brothers.
Memorials are suggested to the Broken Bow Park's or the donor’s choice.Interment will be at the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Ira was born June 4, 1919 north of Broken Bow on the family farm in Tappan Valley to Malcomb David and Minnie Ann Eage Stone. He began his education at the Tappan Valley country school, and the transferred to the North Ward Elementary school in Broken Bow when his family moved to town. As a young boy he was baptized in the Presbyterian Church by Rev. Lester Guldner.
Ike graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1939, and began working as an
electrician for the city of Broken Bow. He joined the Army and served as a Supply Sergeant in Europe during World War II. He married Betty Jane Bird Selfridge on March 2, 1943 in Norman, OK.
After four years serving his country and an honorable discharge, he and BJ,
returned to his beloved Broken Bow. Ike began his own business as a carpenter and electrician, working with friends Ray Roudebush, Loren Miller and Willard Myers. He then began working at Becton Dickinson in the maintenance department where he remained until his retirement. Known as a perfectionist , Ike was well respected and loved by neighbors, friends and family. He loved being outdoors and traveling in the mini home he shared with the love of his life, BJ.
Ike was preceded in death by his wife BJ, his parents, Malcom and Minnie Ann, brother Leo Stone, sisters Doris Blixt and an infant sister Elinore Mae. He is survived by one sister Mary Marie Eveans of Omaha, neices and nephews
