Monica W. Fleishman
Monica Wilhelmina Fleishman, age 99, of Broken Bow, Ne. died May 28, 2010 at the Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow. Funeral services will be held Wednesday June 2, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Broken Bow at 10 a.m. with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday June 1st at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and a Rosary service at 7 p.m. at at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Broken Bow. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Church or Off Broadway Manor, both in Broken Bow.
Miss Monica Fleishman was born July 30, 1910 in Dale Valley, in Custer County to George N. and Anna M. (Bader) Fleishman. She attended the rural Dale Valley School and was graduated from the Merna High School in 1928. she attended Kearney Teachers College from where she received her Bachelor Degree in Education in 1956. She began her teaching career after having taken Normal Training in the Merna High School. She then taught rural schools for thirteen years around Merna and Anselmo. Coming back to Broken Bow she taught twenty-nine years in Broken Bow Custer School, mostly in the fifth grade.
Monica was active in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Retired Teachers Association, Catholic Daughters, Church Women United, Historical Society, and Prairie Pioneer Center. She enjoyed sewing and fancy work as well as visiting and caring for the elderly in their homes and rest homes.
Monica is survived by a brother George C. (Margaret) Fleishman of Napa, Ca.
Many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, and many great great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Theresa (Oliver) Nachtman, and 2 great great nieces, and 2 great great nephews.
