Anna H. Kaelin, 100, of Broken Bow died July 15, 2010, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Anna was born Dec. 11, 1909, to Carl G. and Anna M. (Hatt) Petersen in Boelus, Nebraska.
At an early age, she moved with her family to a farm five miles south of Sargent, Nebraska. She attended rural “Stokes” grade school south of Sargent, and graduated from Sargent High School with the class of 1928. After graduation she taught for one year at the rural “Rosebud” school southeast of Comstock, Nebraska in Valley County.
On June 6, 1931 , she married George H. Kaelin in Broken Bow. They lived on a farm one and one-half miles south of Weissert, Nebraska until 1944 when they had a farm sale and moved to California. After living in California a couple of years they moved back to the farm southeast of Weissert where they lived until her husband George passed away in 1969. Anna continued living on the farm until 1984 when she purchased a house and moved to Broken Bow where she lived until her health began to fail and she moved to Independence Hall.
Over the years she was active in several clubs in the Weissert community, served on the Custer County Extension Board, was a charter member of the Weissert Grange, and for several years held an office in the Nebraska State Grange.
She is survived by one son, Karl and wife Doris of Broken Bow; two daughters, JoAnn Bean of St. Maries, Idaho; Helen Johnson and husband Jim of Ravensdale, Washington; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband George, she was preceded in death by her daughters, infant daughter Mary Ellen in 1943, Elna Mae Eichelberger in 1999, Georgia Killebrew in 2009, her parents and three brothers Norman, Carl, and Henry Petersen.
Funeral services will be held Monday July 19, 2010 at 2:00 PM in Govier Bros. Mortuary in Broken Bow. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery at Weissert, NE. Memoarial have been established to the Independence or Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
