Alice Hagedorn

Alice Jane Christen) Hagedorn, 62, ended her journey on this earth Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE with her daughter, Elizabeth, and her siblings by her side.

Alice was born on November 14, 1955, to Richard and Kathleen (Condon) Christen in Broken Bow, NE. She was greeted at home by three older siblings, Billy, Peggy, and Bobby.  Later she was joined by siblings, Rosemary, Paul, Matt, Jeanne, and Mark.

In 1974, Alice graduated from Anselmo-Merna High School and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education from Kearney State College in 1978.

Alice began her teaching career by teaching mathematics in Springview, Spencer, and O’Neil St. Mary’s all in Nebraska and continued in Camp Verde, Arizona, Alice also worked in a loan company in Camp Verde, Arizona.  Alice spent time caring for her mother after moving back to Nebraska. She was employed then by Mutual Protective Medical Life. Alice was a substitute teacher for Bennington, NE, Elkhorn, NE, Arlington, NE, and Fort Calhoun, NE. She worked for the United States of America Census Bureau. She completed her career life with the Department of Health and Human Services in Fremont,

On October 10, 1992, Alice was married to Lyle Hagedorn.  They were married in St. Anselm’s Catholic church, Anselmo, NE., the church where she had received all of her sacraments as a devoted Catholic. On November 30, 1994, Alice became a mother to her only child, Elizabeth Kathleen Hagedorn.

Alice became diagnosed with lung cancer in the summer of 2017 at which time she began her strong journey of trust and belief of which God had planned for her. She wanted to see her daughter graduate from college and on May 4th, 2018 she saw Elizabeth receive her diploma. Alice is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Hagedorn of Kearney, NE, siblings Bill Christen of Blair, NE, Peggy (John) Popp of Long Island, NY, Bob (Patricia) Christen of Holdrege, NE, Rose Hemmingsen of Kearney, NE, Paul (Cindy) Christen of Anselmo, NE, Matthew (Melba) Christen of Ravenna, NE, Jeanne (Chris) Gentry of Hyannis, NE,  and Mark (Robin) Christen of Anselmo, NE, twenty-three nieces and nephews and eight great-nieces and nephew.

Alice is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Kathleen Christen formerly of Anselmo

 Funeral service will be Monday, August 27, 2018, at 10:30 AM at St Anselm’s Catholic Church in Anselmo, NE with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Burial will be at the St Anselm’s Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday, August 26, 2018, 1 to 5 PM at Govier Brothers Mortuary with a family greeting 6 to 7 PM at St Anselm’s Catholic Church in Anselmo, NE. A Rosary Wake service will be at 7:00 PM. 

Memorials may be given to the Alice Hagedorn Memorial Fund.
