Alice E. Schaad
GONE TO LIVE WITH JESUS!
Alice Elaine Schaad, age 86 of Broken Bow, Nebraska passed away Monday, December 17, 2018, at Off Broadway Apartments.
She was born May 5, 1932, at the family farm in the Cliff Table Community ten miles west of Merna. She was the youngest of eight children born to Fred and Esther May (Runkey) Schaad. As a young girl Alice placed her faith in Jesus through the influence of a godly mother and the teaching, she received at the Cliff Union Church.
Alice received her elementary education K-8th grade at a little one-room schoolhouse called Fairview just 1 ½ mile from the family farm so weather permitting they walked to and from school. Following in her brothers and sisters’ footsteps she attended Merna High School graduating in the Spring of 1949. Two weeks later she enrolled at Kearney State Teachers College and for the next eight years taught in rural schools and attended college in the summers. She taught at Center School near Callaway, Pine Canyon, Loyal School east of Arnold and the last four years at the Sunshine School near Merna.
In the Fall of 1957, she decided to further her education and enrolled at Sherwood Conservatory of Music in Chicago, Illinois majoring in piano with a minor in organ. During this time, she worked at the Lyon-Healy Music House surrounded by all the latest music coming on the market. She then took a job at the Medical Research Center at the University of Illinois where she worked in the Center for Craniofacial Anomalies with 50 research doctors for the next five years. During these years she took night classes at Moody Bible Institute and classes at the IBM International Computer Institute. Alice also sang in the Moody Church Choir Sunday mornings and evenings with choir rehearsals on Thursday evenings and she had the privilege of singing in the Billy Graham Crusade Choir under the direction of Cliff Barrows.
In 1970 Alice took a job with the Continental Insurance Company located in downtown Chicago as the Clerical Supervisor of Data Entry and Computer Operations for the next 23 years. When the company closed its Chicago office and moved it to New Jersey she chose to take early retirement. As a retirement celebration, Alice joined a Mayflower tour group for a 13-day tour of Alaska. She then took a 15-day tour of the Hawaiian Islands. Alice visited each place several more times and had the privilege of traveling to all 50 States as well as touring Mexico, Cuba, Canada, Israel, and Jordan.
She moved back to Broken Bow, Nebraska in the Fall of 1997 to be near family and to help with the care of her older brother and sisters.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister Phyllis, brother Elwin Schaad, sister Lucille Minnick and sister Flora Belle Schaad.
She is survived by a sister Margaret Burton of Kearney, Nebraska, Leroy Schaad of Callaway, Nebraska and Leland Schaad of Waukee, Iowa. And a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Alice will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2018, at 2:00 PM at the Berean Bible Church in Broken Bow, NE with Tyce Jensen officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Table Cemetery near Merna, NE. Memorials are suggested to the Berean Bible Church. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow, NE. Govier Brothers Mortuary are in charge of arrangements.
