Arlene Franzen, 90, of Broken Bow passed away Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Brookestone View in Broken Bow.
Arlene was born on June 29, 1934, in Valley County to Hans Andrew and Cora Anne (Greenland) Schmidt. She grew up and received her education in Arcadia and graduated from high school there. Arlene was united in marriage to Richard Franzen on May 31, 1952, and to this union, five children were born, Penny, Frank, Peggy, Randy and Patty. The couple made their home in the Broken Bow, North Loup/Scotia and Arcadia areas until moving to Broken Bow in April of 1965. She began her long career at B.D. in 1965 until retiring in 1997.
Arlene enjoyed reading, card games, attending grandchildren’s activities and baking for her family.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, D.O.E.S. and V.F.W. Auxiliary in Broken Bow.
Arlene is survived by her children, Randy (Dian) Franzen of Broken Bow and Patty (Marc) Harpham of McCook; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Al Schmidt along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard in 2000; children, Penny, Frank and Peggy; granddaughter, Lori Trew; and siblings, Orma, Derril and Alice.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024, at the Broken Bow United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the Broken Bow Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Govier Brothers Mortuary Wednesday, Sept. 18th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Family for future designation.
