Barbara Prentice

Barbara Annette (McRae) Prentice, 89, of Broken Bow, Nebraska, passed away February 22, 2018, at Brookestone View, Broken Bow, Nebraska.   Services will be held Monday, February 26, 2018, at 10:00 AM at the Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with Pastor Todd Karges of the United Methodist Church officiating. A visitation will be held on Sunday February 25, 2016 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Govier Brothers.  Interment will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.  Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow, NE are in charge of arrangements.   Barbara Annette was born March 27, 1928, at Ansley, Custer County, Nebraska to Flavious and Letha Lenore (Hickman) McRae. She graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1946 and attended Hastings College.   Barbara was united in marriage to Robert O. Chaney on December 28, 1947 and to this union six children were born.  They later divorced and she married Wayne Prentice on July 5, 1976.     Barbara and Wayne made their home in Mullen, Nebraska, where they enjoyed their many friends, their dogs, their yard and garden.  They enjoyed canning the produce from their garden and making jelly.  Barbara loved to crochet and became very good at making beautiful afghans for her friends and family.  They enjoyed traveling to Arizona in the winter when their health permitted.   Barbara was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.   She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, George McRae,  her husband, her son, Robert Dean Chaney and a grandson, George Daniel Grijalva.   Barbara leaves to mourn her children: Carla (Robert) Allen, Plum Creek Canyon near Lexington, NE; Linda Powers, Broken Bow, NE; Steve Chaney (life partner Douglas Lorence), Bellevue, NE;  Susan (George) Grijalva, Tucson, AZ;  and Deborah (Jim) Coleman, Broken Bow, NE; 9 grandchildren: Christine (John) Maessner Kearney, NE; Catherine (David) Minnick, Broken Bow, NE; Tina Nielsen, Broken Bow, NE; Tony Powers, Lexington, NE; Jeremy Coleman, Broken Bow, NE; Jackie (Mark) Chandler, Anselmo, NE;  Mitch (Laura) Coleman, Kearney, NE; Michael (Jessica) Coleman, Broken Bow, NE; and Marcus Coleman, Broken Bow, NE; and 15 great-grandchildren.
