Arnold, NE- Betty Ruth (Lichtenberger) Sergun age 95 of Arnold died May 3, 2024, at the Callaway Good Life Center on her 95th birthday. What a great gift for her to see her Lord and Savior and her husband Al.
Betty was born May 3, 1929, in Callaway, NE to Roy and Alma Lichtenberger. She was the eldest of five children. She told stories of living near the river and swimming with her siblings.
Betty attended Callaway schools and graduated from Callaway High School. After her graduation, she taught country school for two years. In 1949, Betty married Albert Sergun. To this union, two sons, Danny, and David, and one daughter Ruth were born. Betty and Al farmed for many years. Betty kept busy raising chickens and planting a large garden. Betty sold the eggs to Watson Grocery Store in Arnold. Betty always claimed that the egg money paid for all the groceries, and all the doctor bills after each child was born.
Al and Betty sold the farm in 1982 and moved to Arnold. Betty kept gardening and raising flowers. She also started cleaning homes and enjoyed talking with her clients. Betty and Al were very active in the Arnold Baptist Church. They taught Sunday School class and had a weekly bible study in their home. Al passed in 1994. Betty continued to make her home in Arnold. Betty moved to the Callaway Good Life Center after breaking her hip. You could always count on Betty reading when you went to visit, and her favorite book was the Bible.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Al, her two sons, Danny, and David, two sisters, one brother, and her parents.
Those left to mourn her death is her daughter Ruth, two grandsons Edward and Charles, two great granddaughters Anna and Ivy, and a sister Shirley.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at 10:30 AM at the First Baptist Church in Arnold with Pastor Irv Jennings officiating. The burial will be in the Arnold Cemetery. Govier Brothers Mortuary/Arnold Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Because of Betty’s love of reading, memorials are kindly suggested to the Finch Library in Arnold.
