Boyd Earl Poland 87 of Broken Bow passed away March 9th, 2021.
Boyd was born Nov. 5,1933 in Sargent NE to Earl and Ruey Gates Poland. His Father drowned in a gravel pit when Boyd was only 8 years old. He spent many of his growing up years with his uncle Gerald Poland. Boyd attended Madison Square county school just a short distance from Gerald’s home.
In 1954 Boyd worked in the Hyannis/Ashby area stacking hay for Ranchers.
On September 15,1957 Boyd married the prettiest waitress in the county; Evelyn Moore in Rushville, NE. and shortly thereafter the couple made their home in Broken Bow.
In 1960 their first son Lonnie was born, 1962, a second son, Lynn and in 1966 third son, Lowell.
Boyd worked for the Broken Bow City Street Dept. for 13 years and then went into business for himself cutting down trees and dirt work. It could be said of Boyd, “his skid steer was like a third hand to him,” because he could skillfully accomplish so much with his grapple fork.
Boyd enjoyed fishing and hunting and spending time with his Grandchildren. He was of the philosophy that every child should have his own fishing pole and Boyd gladly maintained a hefty supply of poles in which family and friends could readily choose from.
All three sons “caught” the fishing/hunting “Bug” and to Boyd’s delight Lynn took his Dad fishing in Wyoming consecutive summers for years. Lowell took his Dad to Canada in 1999 bear hunting. Lowell would have loved to make it an annual event, however, regardless how fearless Boyd was in dangerous tree cutting bear encounters were an entirely different matter.
Boyd will be sorely missed by his wife of 63 years, Evelyn of Broken Bow; His son Lynn, wife Khrysty and their children Averie, Ahbrie, Andrea and Addie of Broken Bow. Son Lowell, Grandson Kabir wife Nichole and Great-Grandsons Tallen and Creed. Grandson Blake all of St. Paul. Sisters-in-Law Mary Kauk of Broken Bow and Dorothy Poland of Valentine.
Boyd was proceeded in death by his Parents, brothers Lyle and Harley, Son Lonnie, Daughter-in-Law, Karen, sister and brother-in law Joyce and Dick Stevenson.
