The family moved to Riverton, Wyoming where he attended grade school until 1936, when they moved to Custer County, Nebraska to the Ross/Chrisman homestead near New Helena. Charles (Bub) worked on the family farm and later attended high school at Curtis NE. There he studied agriculture and participated in livestock judging. He took his junior and senior years together, hoping to be able to enlist upon graduation, but the war ended before that happened. He married Darlene Colson in 1948 and they were blessed with 6 children. During these years, Bub farmed on the homestead and surrounding area, growing mostly irrigated corn. He enjoyed selling seed corn and visiting his customers. He loved hunting, fishing, golf and many other sports. He coached the New Helena Country School Basketball team (which included his eldest son, Ed, and his daughter, Debbie who was needed to complete the team due to too few boys). They practiced in the loft of his barn. He enjoyed history and studied the early days of Custer County in detail. In April of 1974, Bub was told the good news of Jesus, and placed his trust in Him. In 1977, he married Wanda (Schriever) Gottshalk. They enjoyed travelling, and visited several countries. He loved learning the history and culture of each place he visited, and never knew a stranger. A highlight was a visit to Japan, arranged by 2 men he befriended as foreign students at UNL, who came several summers to help on the farm. They treated them to a wonderful time. Bub and Wanda continued to live on the family farm until he started a new adventure by purchasing a farm in Belize, Central America, where he learned how to be a citrus farmer, growing beautiful orange groves. There, they built 2 homes, and enjoyed this new country and its’ people. Many friends and family were hosted on visits to Belize, where Bub loved being a tour guide. Bub and Wanda attended a small church in San Ignacio, and had many wonderful memories of their church family there.  They also spent several winters in Texas where he continued to enjoy golfing. Bub was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Vivian Schiavone and Althea Ferguson, two brothers Floyd and Clifford, and a step-son Brad Gottschalk. He is survived by his wife, Wanda, his children: Eddie Sargent of Fort Mohave, AZ, Debbie Myers of Broken Bow, Bonnie (Tom) Mayo of Anselmo, NE., Cindy (Chuck) Wagner of Fremont, NE, Jody Sargent of Phoenix, AZ, and Waxi Sargent of Yankton, SD, his step children Gary Gottschalk of Grand Island and Greg Gottschalk of Broken Bow, 21 grandchildren and many great grandchildren,  nieces and nephews. .
