Mary Dorene "Cyd" Miller, born on June 11, 1937, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025, at the age of 87 surrounded by her family and dear friends.
Cyd grew up in Ainsworth, Nebraska. After graduating from Ainsworth High School, e obtained her Cosmetology License and worked in the area. One August evening in 1961, she met a handsome, charming man named Bill at a dance in Bassett, Nebraska. She went home that evening and told her roommate that she had just met the man she was going to marry. And she did just that on June 22, 1963. The couple moved to Arnold, where Bill began his career as a teacher, and Cyd worked at Lucille's Beauty Shop. They soon became a family in a little house on the north side of town, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Cyd was a beloved wife, devoted mother, loving sister, and a wonderful friend to many. Through her kindness, creativity, and selfless spirit, she brought happiness to all those around her. In her life, she enjoyed the simple pleasures of spending time with friends and family, cultivating her beautiful garden, and indulging in her love for canning, cooking, and baking. Cyd also found great delight in reading, playing golf with her husband and friends, and cheering for the kids at high school sporting events throughout the year.
Cyd doted on her husband, Bill, with a love that was evident in every gesture and task. She kept a cozy, neat home, worked side by side with him in the yard and garden, and helped create some awesome Christmas light displays. She dedicated herself to making sure Bill always had his favorite meals, lovingly preparing dishes she knew would make him happy and full...and she made the best gravy in the universe.
Bill was not just her partner; he was her protector, her unwavering source of strength, and the love of her life. No doubt they drove each other crazy at times (we've got some hilarious stories), but their bond was one of deep devotion and a profound affection that only grew with time. Bill cherished her beyond measure, always by her side through life's ups and downs. His presence brought her comfort, and his love offered her a sense of security and peace.
Cyd was very proud of her daughters, Stacie and Nicole. She loved them unconditionally, with a heart that never wavered in its support, no matter the circumstances. She cherished them beyond words, always lifting them up and encouraging them through life's challenges. Cyd's strength was extraordinary. She forgave mistakes with grace and understanding, never holding on to past missteps. She had an uncanny ability to find the positive side to every situation; able to offer a sense of hope and resilience that was nothing short of unworldly. In her, Stacie and Nicole found a pillar of support - a woman whose love, patience, and strength helped guide them through life, no matter what.
She had a playful nature, and her home was a place where smiles and laughter were abundant. Cyd adored spending fun evenings playing cards and games with her family. Having her whole family around during the holidays was always special. But her eyes were always the brightest when the neighborhood kids came by the house to run around in the yard, grab a popsicle, or sneak down into the basement to bring up some toys to play with for a while. To this day, there are shelves full of toys that she would never part with... just in case a little one paid a visit and wanted to have some fun. Her heart was never without enough love for everyone and serving as an "honorary" mom or grandma to many was an incredible source of happiness for her. Over the years, she offered her love and support to some very special people. She proudly watched them grow into admirable adults and loving parents. She will be an angel watching over them forever.
Cyd shared an incredible closeness with her brothers and sisters. She had a deep sense of family and loved them all so very much. Over the years, Cyd and her siblings shared countless memories and moments of laughter. They had a unique bond, one that transcended distance or time, always coming together in times of celebration and difficulty alike. Whether it was spontaneous get-togethers, helping one another during challenging times, or simply enjoying a chat on the phone, the strength of their sibling connection was undeniable.
She touched the lives of many with her genuine care and thoughtful presence. She devoted many hours of service to her church family at St. Agnes and loved being asked to make her famous cinnamon rolls for various occasions. She was a voracious reader, and the Arnold Library was one of her favorite places to be. She cherished her life-long friendships with many Arnold residents and neighbors. The Coffee Crew was extra special to her and provided a daily dose of love, friendship, humor... and maybe a little bit of good-natured gossip.
Cyd was preceded in death by her mother, Katherine; father, William; stepmother, Dorothy; brothers, Bobby, Jerome, Dale, Dean, and Marley; sisters Sharon and Margie.
She is survived by her loving husband, Bill, and daughters, Stacie Mirabella (Bill) and Nicole Ohlrich (Doug); her adored and amazing grandchildren, McKenna Ohlrich, Rachel Mirabella, and Ryan Mirabella, whom she loved to talk to about their accomplishments and recent adventures; her wonderful brothers, Bill Little (Sandra) and Ricky Little (Nadine); her beautiful sisters Linda Little and Hazel Platt; many nieces and nephews and their families; and her beloved Cory Hauser (Gretchen) and little guys, Archer, Thatcher and Fletcher; Kelsey Davis (Jake) and little ones: Zane, Reid and Marley.
Cyd's loving family and many dear friends will forever remember her as a delightful and special person. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, service, and goodness will continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
