David “Dave” Ray Evans was born on May 6, 1953, at the Broken Bow Community Hospital and passed away on March 22, 2025, at his home in Broken Bow. He was born to Ralph and Margaret (Nunn) Evans. Dave was an only child. He was raised at Sargent, NE on the farm. He attended K-7 at District 100 just up the road from home, sometimes his dog showed up at school and killed snakes in the outhouses. Dave finished 8th grade at Gates School. He graduated from Sargent High School in 1971. He attended UNL for one year and then Nebraska Christian College at Norfolk, graduating with a Ministry degree in 1976.

Dave married Karen Duryea on May 27, 1973, at the Lillian Church on Christ. They moved from Norfolk to the farm at Sargent in March of 1976. The couple lived there until November of 2003, when they moved to Broken Bow. Dave and Karen had three boys Jason, Ryan, and Kevin.

Dave enjoyed hunting, fishing, baling hay, feeding the birds, growing flowers, and making things. He was in 4-H for several years.

Dave was preceded in death by his grandparents, George & Ruth Nunn and Ray & Verva Evans, parents Ralph and Margaret Evans, in-laws Leland and Arva Duryea, brother-in-law Lloyd Duryea.

Dave survived by his wife Karen, sons Jason (Gina) Evans of Ansley, Ryan (Rachel) Evans of Elm Creek, and Kevin (Sheila) Evans of Berwyn, six grandchildren, Kinsey & Kacee Evans of Broken Bow, Kaylee & Natalie Evans of Elm Creek, Nicole(Mykael) Stoddard of Kearney, Brandon Evans of Broken Bow, one great-granddaughter Haven Stoddard of Kearney, and sisters-in-law Kay (Bruce) Kennedy of Merna and Connie (Keith) Mahnker of Grant, three hunting and fishing friends (like brothers) Bert McIntosh of St. Libory, Roger Ohnesorg of Chappel, and Dave Fischman of Omaha, uncle Ted (Nancy) of Rosebury, OR, and aunt Rose Alfonso of New York.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. Memorials are suggested to Broken Bow Ambulance. A visitation will take place on Thursday, March 27th from 9:00 AM until service time at Govier Brothers Mortuary. Govier Brothers Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
