McCook, NE - Dawn Johnson age 88, of McCook, NE passed away on December 16, 2024, at the Community Hospital in McCook.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024, at 10:30 AM at the Assembly of God Church in Broken Bow. Burial will follow in the Broken Bow Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Anselmo/Merna School Foundation. A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 19th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Govier Brothers Mortuary. Dawn Janice Johnson was born on April 8, 1936, in Broken Bow, NE to Ralph and Avis (Headley) Clay. Dawn grew up in the Broken Bow area, graduating from Broken Bow High School in 1954. Dawn attended Kearney State College receiving her master’s degree in Elementary Ed.
On March 3, 1961, Dawn was united in marriage to Clyde Johnson. Dawn taught for a total of 45 years at various county schools, her first place was Brownlee, then Somerford, Happy Hollow, and then at Anselmo/Merna for 25 years.
Dawn enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening, and baking for her family. Her favorite flower was the purple Iris.
Dawn was preceded in death by her husband Clyde, parents Ralph and Avis, granddaughter Kara Dawn Johnson Haller, brothers James, Pat, and Roger, and sisters Anita and Sandra.
Dawn is survived by her son Barry (Faye) Johnson of McCook, grandchildren Kaleb Johnson of McCook and Kendra Racicky of Kearney, great-grandchildren, sisters Jean (Dillard) Anderson of North Platte, and Liz Baker of Kenosha, WI, and brothers Richard Clay of Manhattan, KS and Lawrence Clay of Kennewick, WA, and several nieces and nephews.
