Levern Dean Wilmoth, age 90, died March 29, 2021 at the Heritage at Twin Creeks in Allen, Texas.
He was born on April 5, 1930 in Arnold, Nebraska to Lloyd and Lethia (Iiams) Wilmoth and grew up on the family farm around Merna, attending Merna schools through high school graduation in 1947. He attended one semester at the University of Nebraska before taking up farming full time.
Dean married Shirley Lauer on September 22, 1957 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Broken Bow.
Their only child, David, was born in December 1958 and the family farmed in the Merna area until 1964 when Dean changed careers and they relocated to Denver, CO.
Dean worked several years for two electronics firms, SCM and Control Data. He then went to work for Hesston Corp., a farm machinery company. With Hesston corporation he was transferred to the home office and the family moved to Newton, Kansas. While in Newton, Dean fulfilled a lifelong goal by obtaining his private pilot's license.
After retiring from Hesston, Dean and Shirley bought an AAMCO Transmission Shop in Wichita, KS. They ran the shop together for 10 years before selling it, retiring and moving to Kearney to be closer to Shirley's parents.
In 2013 they made the move to Texas to be closer to their son, David, and his family in Allen, Texas.
Dean was always active in the Wisconsin Synod Lutheran Church everywhere they lived, serving many years as an elder and representing the church as a lay person at synod meetings.
Dean was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, and his parents Lloyd and Lethia Wilmoth.
He is survived by his son David and wife Julie of Fairview, Texas; grandchildren Kelly Thompson and husband Kyle of McKinney, Texas, Kyle Wilmoth and wife Amna of Allen, Texas; great-grandson Luke Thompson and great-granddaughter Lily Thompson of McKinney, Texas; sister LaDonna Hostick of Chandler, AZ; brother-in-law Dwaine Lauer and wife Rita of Fremont; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Broken Bow Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at 10:30 am with Mark Gefaller officiating. Interment will be in the Merna Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 6, 2021 from Noon to 7:00 pm, with family greeting Noon to 2:00 pm at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Govier Brothers Mortuary are in charge of arrangements.
