Dixie Books

Dixie Books age 76 of Broken Bow, NE passed away November 7, 2024, at the Jennie M Melham Memorial Medical Center.

 Dixie Diane Books was born March 30, 1948, in Stillwater, OK to Frank and Doris (Hartwick) Maltsberger. Dixie grew up in Pawnee, OK graduating High School in 1966. She attended college at Phillips University in Enid, OK where she met Leon Books.

 On December 27, 1969, Dixie was united in marriage to Norval Leon Books in Pawnee, OK. The couple lived in Omaha where daughter Mandie was born, then moving to Washington, PA where son Joshua was born, and then in 1976, made their home in Broken Bow where son Joe was born. 

Dixie loved quilting, which led her to open her own quilt shop “Wild Rose”. She owned and operated the quilt shop for about ten years. Dixie was also an avid reader. Her greatest joy was her seven grandchildren.

 The couple traveled a lot for 20 years. They covered all 50 States and six Continents.

 Dixie was preceded in death by her parents Frank & Doris, brother Mike Maltsberger, and a nephew Mitchell Maltsberger.

 Dixie is survived by her husband Leon of Broken Bow, daughter Mandie (Tim) Renz of Grand Island, sons Joshua Books of Seattle, WA, and Joe (Gwen) Books of Sutherland, grandchildren Erin, Micah, Isaac, Timothy, Sebastian, Norval Riley, and Chandler, a brother Joe (Teri) Maltsberger of Owasso, OK, and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation was chosen. Private family services will be held at a later date.
