Dona was born on January 28, 1930, to Leo and Ruth (Sommers) Wood. She grew up on the family ranch and attended Burr Oak School through 8th grade then attended Broken Bow High School and graduated in 1948. She attended Kearney Normal School and began working in Broken Bow, first at a retail store and then in bookkeeping at Arrow Seed where she met Martin. Dona and Martin were married on June 17, 1958. After working in the sandhills they moved back to the Wood family ranch. They were blessed with two children, Paul in 1960 and Anna in 1969. In 1972 they assumed management of the ranch and continued to do so until retiring in 2000. In 2001 they moved into Broken Bow where she resided until moving to Kearney and residing in Mother Hull home in 2020.
Dona was an avid reader and enjoyed nothing more than cooking her family's favorite meals. Her freezer was always full of everyone's favorite cookies and bars. Her homemade bread was legionary. She enjoyed the years that she worked at Heritage Hall in the activities department and working at various retail stores in Broken Bow before "retiring". She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Broken Bow where she and Martin were married, through her passing. Her faith was an integral part of her life, and she looked forward to the day when she would be reunited with Martin in Heaven.
Dona was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Martin, and her brother Dean (Bud) Wood. She is survived by Paul and wife Mary, the ranch; Anna and husband Matt Lyman of Lincoln; and sister Wanda Jackson of Fort Worth, TX, six grandchildren/step-grandchildren; Ryan and Abby Brooke of Lincoln, Andrew and Audrey Schipporeit of Sumner, Noah Mackeprang of San Diego, CA, Kelly and Andrew Bolin of Lincoln, April Lyman of Lincoln, and Jacob Lyman of Abilene TX. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren/step-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
