Dora Johnson

Funeral services will be held on Saturday January 6th 2018 at1:00 PM at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with Minister Kathy Salts officiating.  Burial will be held on Monday January 8 at 11:00 AM at the Grandview Cemetery at Long Pine, NE.  A visitation will be held on Friday January 5, 2018, 5 PM to 7 PM at Govier Brothers.  Memorials are suggested to the Masonic Home in Plattsmouth, Shiners’ Crippled Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis, or the Children’s Home in Fremont.

 

Dora Marguerite (Neubauer) Johnson was born January 20, 1928 in Blaine County, near Brewster, Nebraska to Gwynne Logan and Sarah Gertrude (Ewing) Neubauer.  She passed away at the Elwood Care Center on December 28, 2017 at the age of 89 years, 11 months and 8 days.  She was the oldest of 5 daughters.  She graduated from Brewster High School, where her father was the County Superintendent in May of 1946.  There were 6 members in her graduating class, all of whom have preceded her in death.  She attended college at Chadron State College in Chadron, NE where she received her teaching degree.  All of her sisters were teachers.  She taught in a rural school North of Brewster and from there went to teach in Long Pine, NE, where she met her future husband, Norman.  She also taught in Cody-Kilgore before she married Norman D. Johnson on June 24, 1954 in Brewster, NE.  She taught one more year in Scottsbluff before returning to Long Pine.  She worked for Anderson’s Market, Ainsworth Flower Shop and the City of Long Pine as the Village Clerk.  She and Norman purchased the feed and seed part of Shaneyfelt’s in Long Pine in 1972.  She and Norman owned and operated Johnson’s Grain Feed and Seed for nearly 29 years.  She was a member of the School Board in Long Pine and the Brown County Hospital Board in Ainsworth.  She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for 70 years, a member of the Sandhills Shrine Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary in Long Pine.

 

Dora and Norman had four children, 3 daughters and 1 son.  Gwendolyn Kay, Benita Ann, Lori Jane and Glenn Logan.  She loved Nebraska Football but her heart was in Nebraska Volleyball.  She loved to garden, raise chickens, play cards, and put together jigsaw puzzles and embroidery.  She and Norman were avid card players, fishing people and bowlers.  She moved to the Elwood Care Center in April of 2014, following an ankle injury and remained there until her death.

 She leaves to mourn her passing, her daughters Gwendolyn and Scott Stoll of Elwood, NE; Benita and Bob Hahn of Lincoln, NE; Lori and David Shipferling of Lincoln, NE; her son Glenn and Kristy Johnson of Ainsworth, NE.  One sister, Marcia Elliott of Casper, WY; one sister-in-law, Lorraine Larson of Stanton, IA.  Three step-children, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Norman, her sisters and brothers-in-law, Renna and Wallace (Pete) Ritchie, Meda and Jack Simons, Wilda and Dale Jackson, LaVerne Elliott and 2 siblings in infancy, Ardetta Jewel and Kenneth Sterling.
