Eleanor Horst

June 23, 1922 — April 21, 2018

Eleanor Cox Horst 95, of Halsey, passed away April 21, 2018, at Good Life Center in Callaway.    Eleanor was born on June 23, 1922, in Cook County Chicago to Roy Kyle and Ida Edith (Goerner) Cox.   Eleanor married Eugene Horst April 7, 1942, in Broken Bow before Eugene was shipped to the South Pacific in October 1942.  To this union two children were born, Dennis and Katherine.   Eleanor worked for her grandfather, Hollie Cox and J.F. Moody in the Purdum Store and Bank and was also Postmaster of Purdum Post Office after graduating from high school. Eleanor cooked at the Halsey school for seven years and then went to manage the Nebraska State 4-H Camp for twenty-five years, retiring in 1986.  Eugene and Eleanor enjoyed their 76 years of life together camping, fishing and traveling.    She is survived by her husband Eugene of Halsey; son, Dennis Horst, (and special friend, Rita Thomalla) of Gothenburg; daughter, Katherine (Mike) Lucky of Prescott Valley, AZ.   5 grandsons; Clay (Joni) of Loveland, CO, Jeff of Sidney, Clint (Heidi) of Arnold, Ben (Jessica) of Des Moines, IA, Brandon (Amy) of Chadron, 10 great-grandchildren; 3 step great-grandchildren; sibling, Bob (Yvonne) Cox of Purdum; sister-in-law, Margaret Misner of Gering; many nieces, nephews; and wonderful friends.       In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Halsey and Purdum churches.    Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 24 at Halsey school.  Govier Brothers Mortuary, Broken Bow, is in charge of arrangements.
