Evan Daniel Horine, 17, of Broken Bow, NE, passed away Saturday, August 26, 2017. Born on May 22, 2000, Evan is the son of Dani (Gates) and Chad Steggall of Broken Bow, NE and Scott and Wendy Horine of Upland, NE. Evan was a junior at Ansley/Litchfield High School where he was an honor student, active in a number of extra curricular activities including football, basketball, band, One Act and FFA. He worked as a lifeguard and swimming instructor at the Ansley pool for the past three years and especially enjoyed teaching younger kids how to swim. He had an adventurous nature, taking great pleasure in music, travel, history and the outdoors, metal detecting, hunting, fishing and camping with family, friends and his dog Willow. Evan was known for his willingness to help others, especially his brothers and sisters. His strong-willed spirit, witty humor and sensitive heart will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved him. He was the kind of young man that anyone would be proud to call son, brother, grandson, and friend. He is survived by his parents and step-parents, as well as brothers Wyatt Horine and fiance Natalie Staggs, and Keegan Baxter, sisters Morgan Horine, and Kinley Baxter, step-sister Cory Steggall, maternal grandparents Dana and Jerrie Gates, and two great grandmothers, Phyllis Klitzman and Marian Anderson, all of Broken Bow. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Leroy "Pete" and Joan Horine, maternal grandmother Pamela Gates, aunt Vicky Horine and great aunt Cynthia Pierce. Visitation will be held at Govier Brothers Mortuary, 542 S 9th Avenue, Broken Bow, NE, on Wednesday, August 30th, from 6 to 8pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30am, Thursday, August 31st, at Broken Bow United Methodist Church, 1000 South 3rd Avenue, Broken Bow, followed by interment at Gates Cemetery.
