Flora Belle Schaad

Broken Bow, NE – Flora Belle Schaad age 88 of Broken Bow passed away on May 23, 2017 at the Jennie Melham Medical Center in Broken Bow.   Funeral services will be held on Friday May 26, 2017 at 11:00 AM the Berean Church in Broken Bow with Pastor Tyce Jensen officiating.  Burial will be in the Cliff Table Cemetery.  Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow is in charge of the arrangements.  Visitation will be held on Thursday May 25, 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM at Govier Brothers Mortuary.  Memorials are suggested to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.      Flora Belle Schaad went to be with the Lord on May 23, 2017. She was born to Fredrick Elwin Schaad and Esther May Runkey Schaad at home on a farm 10 miles west of Merna, Nebraska on August 30, 1928. She was the sixth child of eight children.   Flora attended Fairview School (District 241) kindergarten through eighth grade and graduated from Merna High School in May of 1947. She was saved at a young age and spent several years teaching Daily Vacation Bible School at several locations. She also taught 6 years of school in rural Nebraska. She graduated from Westmar College at LeMar, Iowa in 1956 and then moved to Ohio and was a house mother to little girls ages 2 to 10 years old at The Otterbein Home for 5 years. For the next 27 years she taught School in Jefferson Township Schools in Ohio. During this time she was foster mother to Jill VanDeventer and Patricia Smallwood each for a short time.   Flora retired from teaching and moved to Westmont, Illinois to live with her sister Alice. While there she worked at the So Fro Fabrics store for several years. She enjoyed traveling, music, crafts, and sewing. In 1997 she and Alice moved back to Broken Bow, Nebraska to be near their brother Elwin and later their sister Lucille both in the nursing home.   She is survived by brothers; Leroy Schaad of Callaway, Nebraska, Leland Schaad of Waukee, Iowa, sisters; Margaret Burton of Kearney, Nebraska, Alice Schaad of Broken Bow, Nebraska and many nieces and nephews.   She was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, her parents Fred and May Schaad, Aunts; Blanche Schaad, Mable (Clarence) Coleman and Fern (Cecil) Coleman, a brother Elwin Schaad, a sister Lucille (Robert) Minnick and an infant sister Phyllis Marie Schaad.
