George D. Govier, age 89, of Grand Island, NE, formerly of Broken Bow, NE., passed away Sunday, October 7, 2018, at the Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island, NE. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 12, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow, NE, officiated by Jan Dobesh, LLP. Visitation will be on Friday, October 12, 2018, from 10:00 to service time. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Township Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorials are suggested to the Ascera Care Hospice, at 912 Concorde Ave. in Grand Island, NE 68803. Govier Brothers Mortuary are in charge of arrangements. George D. Govier was born August 31, 1929, one mile north and one-half mile east of Weissert, Nebraska on the Comstock mail route to Fred and Alice (Smith) Govier. He graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1949. He attended Hastings College where he met his wife to be Dorothy Kort. He attended Mortuary College in Los Angeles, California. On July 24, 1951, he was drafted into the Army and served in the medics in Korea and was discharged July 28, 1953. After his military service, he joined with his brother Everett Govier in Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. George and Dorothy were married May 19, 1954, in Hastings, NE. They had two children, Betty of Grand Island, NE, and Jerry and Wife Mary Beth in Citrus Heights, California. One granddaughter Chanda Small and husband Derek and a great-grandson Andrew, also several nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy and brother Everett, and parents Fred and Alice Govier.
