Gerald “Jerry” Arthur McMullen, 70, from Chandler, Arizona passed away peacefully at home July 18th, 2017. Jerry or “Moon” as known by many of his friends will be remembered for his sense of humor, big heart and uncanny ability to pull practical jokes. He never met a stranger he didn’t like and could carry on a conversation with anyone. Jerry was born on December 18th, 1946 in Dunning, NE to Art and Mary McMullen. He attended elementary school in Dunning and graduated from Halsey-Dunning High School in 1965 before attending and graduating from the Grand Island School of Business in 1966. After graduating he enlisted in the Army and served our country in the Vietnam War. He married Kay Conard on September 21, 1966 and had two daughters Lori and Melanie. After fulfilling his Army obligation, Jerry and Kay moved to Thedford, NE to help run the family business, McMullen Propane Corporation. They lived in Thedford for approximately a decade before calling Dunning their home. He spent the last 15 years in Chandler, AZ where he got to watch his grandson, Dillon, “grow up”. Prior to his passing his memory of the past was amazing, often referring to many family and friends who are present today. He told us numerous stories on a daily basis. If he was not watching western shows on tv he was busy reading the local newspapers and many times was the first to “break” the local news stories to us. His love for animals was strong and feeding his birds daily was always a number one priority. His dogs were also a very important part of his life. He was always making them comfortable and made sure they were included in all meals, and then some. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother and father in-law. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kay; daughters Lori McMullen and Melanie Tibbetts (Jim) and their families; grandson Dillon Fourtner and family friend Laura Martini all currently residing in Arizona. Siblings, Herb McMullen (Shirley) and family of Anselmo, NE and Patty Glidden (Mitch) and family of Mullen, NE; mother-in-law, Betty Naber of Halsey, NE; brother-in-laws, Carol Conard (Linda) and family of Burwell, NE and Dan Naber (Lori) and family of Halsey, NE along with many nieces, nephews and numerous close friends. In Lieu of Flowers memorials can be made to the Sandhills Museum, Dunning Fire Department, Blaine County Foundation, local animal rescues or any preferred charity. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ A memorial service will be held on August 4, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Open Bible Church in Dunning, Nebraska with Pastor Ralph McKay officiating.
