Gwen Druery was born August 4, 1926, to Guy and Mabel Ruby in the home of her parental grandparents, Grant and Libby Ruby, in Lowell, NE. The young family located themselves in the Sandhills living in McPherson County and then in Logan County. Gwen attended grade school, along with her siblings, Patricia, and Willis, at Banner School in Logan County. The children rode horseback two- and one-half miles to school. Attending Sunday school and church at the Presbyterian Church in Stapleton was a weekly occurrence. Her high school years were spent attending Stapleton High School doing light housekeeping in exchange for room and board.
On March 1, 1946, Gwen was united in marriage to Charles Druery in Stapleton. Together, the couple had three children Riley, Anita, and DeAnn. In 1950, the couple moved to Broken Bow. Gwen began working for Frank Barney as a bookkeeper. She also worked for many years at Nebraska State Bank in bookkeeping and later as a teller. She retired in 1992; at which time she moved her mother into their home to care for her.
Gwen lived in her home in Broken Bow for 73 years. She passed away from this life on January 21, 2025, at Brookestone View in Broken Bow.
