Iola Purintun age 96, of Broken Bow, NE passed away November 9, 2021, at the Brookestone View in Broken Bow, NE.
Funeral services will be Saturday, November 13, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow, NE with Pastor Robert Winn officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery. A visitation will take place on Friday, November 12th from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm with family greeting 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Govier Brothers Mortuary. Govier Brothers Mortuary are in charge of arrangements. Sada “Iola” Spencer was born June 7, 1925, in Weissert to Ralph and Elsie (Pirnie) Spencer. Iola attended the Weissert Country School thru the 10th grade
Iola and Lyle Zane Hendrickson were married on September 30, 1945. Lyle was killed by lightning in July of 1946. Their son Lyle Eugene was born in August.
Iola married Alonzo “Lonnie” Purintun on November 22, 1950. To this union two daughters were born, Verla and Carol.
Iola was a caregiver. She took care of her parents, her husband, friends, and neighbors. She worked as a waitress at the hotel, a clerk at Holcomb’s Pharmacy, and Broadway Market, a cook at the High School, and as a janitor at the First Baptist Church. She did beautiful embroidery and cross stitch. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Iola is survived by son Lyle (Vickie) Hendrickson of Omaha, daughters Verla (Buz) Hyatt of O’Neill, and Carol Purintun of Broken Bow, four grandchildren: Scott Hendrickson, Shawn (Denise) Hendrickson, Nathan (Kellie) Hyatt, and Kirsten (Colin) Brue, 14 great grandchildren, one great great grandson, two sisters Ella Mae Moseley of Kearney, and Jean Olson of Broken Bow, brother-in-law Jerry Ahrens of Arnold, and many nieces and nephews.
Iola was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Elsie, husbands Lyle Zane Hendrickson, and “Lonnie” Purintun, two brothers, and seven sisters.
