Eugenia Jane “Jean” Olson was born on February 6, 1932, to Ralph and Elsie (Pirnie) Spencer in Weissert, NE, joining a large family with 10 siblings. She attended the Lone Tree School and the Weissert School, graduating from the 8th grade. Jean married Oscar Olson on March 7, 1952, and to this union four sons were born, Charlie (Shirley) Olson, Leland (Phyllis) Olson, Marvin (Gloria) Olson, and Roger (Alice) Olson. Jean and Oscar were blessed with 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. Jean attended the Church of God at Weissert where she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at the age of 6 or 7 years old. Jean also attended the Evangelical Free Church in Sargent for many years, teaching Sunday school, sharing Bible stories with young children, watching their faces light up with excitement as she told them of God’s word.

God gave Jean the gift of caring for babies and small children, giving her the ability to help many people with childcare. Family was extremely important to Jean. She always looked forward to the annual family reunions that included the Spencer Campout on Labor Day weekend and the Christmas/New Year’s get together in December. Then it was shortened to just the Campout on Labor Day. Jean worked on the farm helping Oscar at Round Valley and then began a job at Melham Hospital in laundry on April 10, 1992, during which time she and Oscar moved from the farm in Round Valley into Broken Bow. Jean retired from the hospital on May 19, 2013. After retirement, Jean enjoyed living at her home in Broken Bow watching the birds in the bird feeders, doing crossword puzzles, and visits from family members stopping by, including “Tammy Thursdays”.

Jean was a blessing to everyone she met, and she will be missed by all who knew her, yet we know she is happy to be at home with the Lord and the loved ones who went on before her.
