August 21, 1948 — August 13, 2017

Jerald D. Moody Jerald (Jerry) Moody, 68, of Elm Creek died August 13, 2017 in Blue Valley Care Home in Hebron, NE.  Services are set for 10:00 a.m. Friday at Arcadia United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff D. Hale officiating. Burial will be at Lee Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday at Govier Brothers in Broken Bow from 10-7 with family present from 5-7. Jerry was born in Loup City, NE on August 21, 1948 to Merle and Mary (Hyatt) Moody. He attended Lincoln Public Schools and moved to California with family to heal from a very severe car accident.  While in California, he began a career operating heavy equipment with his brothers. The family business led him all over the country with a lengthy stay in West Virginia and a stint performing custom farming.  Jerry also worked as a pen rider for various central Nebraska feed lots.  Jerry then worked for the state of Nebraska operating a maintainer and later retired from the Buffalo County Highway Department. Jerry moved to Colorado and Kansas throughout retirement to be close to family and then back to Kearney in 2012.  Jerry married LaDonna Humphreys in 1968 and fathered Jeremy and Crystal Moody.  He remarried Suzanne Butler in 1982, became stepfather to Katy and Abby Roberts, and fathered Evan Moody. Jerry had a passion for his children and especially his grandchildren.  He loved to coon hunt, fish, ride horses, golf, and was a great dancer spending many weekends with friends traveling the state to two-step and waltz to their favorite bands.  Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Mary Moody, and brothers, Elvin and Robert Moody.  He is survived by sisters Phyllis Adamek of Copley, OH and Janice Nutter of Baltimore, MD, two sons, one daughter, two step-daughters, 7 grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren, and countless cousins, nieces and nephews. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Buffalo County 4-H Extension.
