Joan Jane Sheets age 84 of Burwell formerly of Sargent, passed away Thursday November 23, 2017 at the Burwell Community Health Center in Burwell. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday November 28, 2017 at 10:30 AM at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Sargent with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery at Sargent. A visitation will be held on Monday November 27, 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM with the family greeting friends 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the church. A rosary service will be held on Monday evening at 7:00 PM at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Sargent EMT’s or the Sargent Volunteer Fire Department. Joan Jane (Michealson) Sheets was born to John J. and Francis Gale (Baker) Michealson on December 15, 1932 in Tilden, NE. and passed away on November 23, 2017. Joan attended Madison County School until eighth grade and graduated high school from Tilden High School. After graduation she worked at the Antelope County Courthouse as a Secretary for the County Judge. Joan met Paul Sheets and began a courtship. Joan and Paul were married on October 29, 1955 in Neligh, NE. Joan and Paul made their first home in Neligh. The Nebraska Brand Commission moved Paul to Broken Bow and in 1959 then on to Sargent, where Paul and Joan established their permanent home. To this union they were blessed with nine children; Mary, Paula, Dianna, Marty, Donita, Teresa, Gerry, Kim and Ken. Joan was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 104, a member of the East of Sargent Better Homemakers Extension Club and a member of the St. Mary's Sargent Catholic Church. For many years Joan bowled in Sargent's Tuesday afternoon Bowling league. Joan was the head of the Blood Mobile and Sargent High School Senior Tea for numerous years. Joan enjoyed life on the farm, feeding and nurturing her bucket calves, gardening, canning, taking walks and adopting stray cats. Joan and Paul both loved music and enjoyed attending many dances throughout their married life. Joan's door was always open and the coffee was always on and no one left hungry. Joan was well known for her wonderful meals and baked goods. Her greatest blessing in life were her children, grandchildren and many beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Gail Michealson, sisters Ilene Schmitz and Artus Upton, infant daughter Dianna, son Marty, daughter-in-law Lana Sheets and her husband Paul. Her survivors include daughter Mary (Robert) Kennedy of Atkinson, Paula (Mark) Sherburne, Donita (Marvin) Hulinsky, Teresa (Dale) Seidel all of Burwell, son Gerry (Shelly) Sheets of Sargent, daughter Kim (Bryan) Roberts of Sargent, son Ken (Bridget) Sheets of Ord, fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
