Robert “Bob” Fells was born November 8, 1927 to John H. Fells and Zella (Eastman) Fells. He passed from this life on July 14, 2017 after a brief illness. With the exception of his service in the Army, and the last 2 ½ years, he lived his entire life near Arcadia. He graduated from Arcadia High School in 1945. In 1951 he entered the Army, training as a mechanic, and serving in Korea during the Korean War. He returned to Nebraska at the end of June, 1953. On August 14, 1953, he married Donna Greenland at the home of her parents near Arcadia. Bob started farming with his brother, Don, southwest of town. Over the years Bob expanded his operation, adding more land and cattle. Bob and Donna also expanded their family, adding Jeanne, John Jr, and Jo. At the time of his accident in October, 2014, Bob was still actively farming and ranching at the age of 86. Bob’s first passion was farming, followed closely by auctions of any type, but especially cattle auctions. He loved visiting and telling stories with friends of all ages. He was a dedicated, lifetime member of the Arcadia American Legion Post, often marching in the Color Guard, and a lifetime member of the Ord VFW Post. He was a past member of the Arcadia School Board, and the Arcadia Rural Fire Board. Bob is survived by his son, John of Arcadia, and special friend, Martha Spotanski, of Broken Bow, and a daughter, Jo (Stan) Heyen of Ceresco, and two granddaughters, Katie and Jessi Heyen of Ceresco. Also surviving is his sister-in-law, Hollis Hunt of Arcadia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna, daughter, Jeanne, his parents, a half brother, half sister, brother and sister, two nephews, and a niece. Memorials may be given to the Arcadia American Legion Post 251. Funeral services will be held Wednesday July 19, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Arcadia, Nebraska at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Jeff Hale and Rev. Glenda Ferguson officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday July 18, 2017 at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at the United Methodist Church in Arcadia from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Memorials may be offered to the Arcadia Legion Post 251.
