John Less

Broken Bow, NE – John Less age 79 of Broken Bow, NE passed away October 6, 2023, at his home in Broken Bow. John Francis Less was born December 27, 1943, in Cascade, Iowa to Henry and Johanna (McDermott) Less. John served his country in the US Army from December 18, 1961, to December 19, 1967 John married Kay Wilson in 1966. To this union three children were born Randy, Rhonda, and Stacey. The couple divorced in 1983. After his divorce John moved to Kearney and worked for Broadfoot as a gravel crusher. This is where John met Carolyn Barthel. John also worked for Liman Ritchie in Grand Island. April 15, 1993, John was united in marriage to Carolyn Barthel in Las Vegas, NV. John gained two stepsons Kalin and Brian Barthel. The couple made their home in Kearney until 2001, then moved to Worms, where John helped at the Fonner Park Racetrack with track maintenance, John always had horses and loved them. In July of 2022 the couple moved to Broken Bow. John was a big part of the family. He took exceptionally good care of Carolyn and was a good man who was loved by all. John is survived by wife Carolyn Barthel of Broken Bow, children Randy Less, Rhonda, Less, and Stacey Less, stepson Kalin Barthel of Farmers Branch, TX, brother Henry Less, Jr. and sister Ann. John was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Johanna Less, stepson Brian Barthel, two brothers Raymond Less and Joey Less.
