Karl F. Marten was born May 2nd, 1943 to Herman (Fred) and Ruthanna (Johnson) Marten in Broken Bow, Nebraska. Fred and Ruthanna moved Karl and his three siblings to Purdum, Nebraska where Karl attended school and graduated from Halsey High in 1961.
Karl married Melva Ryman in 1966 to which two children were born. Karl and Melva lived in Hastings until moving to Halsey in 1973 to work on the family ranch, where they remained until their divorce in 1992. Karl then made his home the family ranch in Purdum and Dunning until he moved to Broken Bow in 2003, where he remained until his death, making the trip from Broken Bow to Purdum daily to tend to the ranch until it was no longer possible due to health reasons.
Karl left behind two children Adam Marten and wife Lisa of Halsey and Susan Marten of Grand Island. His beloved grandchildren Brady Marten, Taylor Marten, Kaitlin (Darrek) Ellis, Nolan Marten and Madison Marten. Dear friend and companion Peg Collier, sisters Barbara Staab and Judy Marten of Broken Bow.
Karl was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law Herman (Fritz) and Shirley Marten and nephew Tim Marten.
Visitation will be Friday, November 15th from 5-7:00 pm at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow, NE and services will be Saturday, November the 16th at 10:30 am at the Halsey School Gymnasium in Halsey, NE with internment to follow in Purdum at the Purdum Cemetery. Govier Brothers Mortuary will be in charge of arrangements. Online condolences can be left at www.govierbrothers.com.
